One of golf's first superstars. His record of winning 11 majors is exceeded only by Jack Nicklaus, with 18. First American to win the British Open, in 1922. He won it also in 1924, 1928 and 1929, the US Open in 1914 and 1919, and the PGA Championship in 1921, 1924 through 1927. Had the Master's Tournament existed during his playing years, his tally likely would have been higher.
