Tried three times to get elected to the U.S. House and twice to get elected to the U.S. Senate between 1948 and 1970, failing each time. Served as Nebraska Governor for three terms 1961-67, leaving to run unsuccessfully for Senate on the advice of Lyndon B. Johnson. After his stint in politics, Morrison served as Douglas County defender, and remained in public life until shortly before his death, one month after the death of his wife of 68 years.
