Resident of the United States since 1987. In a column on 7 January 2008 for the online Washington Post website, Gandhi stated that the Jewish people "overplay" their Holocaust experience, calling Israel and the Jews the "biggest players" in the "culture of violence" which will eventually "destroy humanity." As a result of these remarks he resigned from the University of Rochester based M. K. Gandhi Institute for Non-Violence, which he had founded in 1991.
