Executive summary: The Royal Canadians

Big band leader, from a family of musicians. He is best known for his New Year's Eve broadcasts, on radio and television, held from 1929 to 1976. Until 1959 they were staged from New York City's Roosevelt Hotel, and afterward at the Waldorf Astoria. Auld Lang Syne's association with the change of the year is mostly due to Lombardo.
