Gagosian brokered the second-largest art sale ever, that of Willem de Kooning's Woman III to David Geffen for $137M (2006).

Gagosian and partners were investigated by the FBI for tax evasion in their use of a shell corporation in a 1990 deal, demanding fines of $26.5M. Also investigated for the sale of paintings to ImClone CEO Sam Waksal.
