Originally the Detroit Gems (1946-47) of the National Basketball League (NBL). Relocated and renamed the Minneapolis Lakers (1947-60). NBL champions in 1948. Joined the National Basketball Association in 1949. NBA champions in 1949, 1950, 1952, 1953, and 1954. Relocated in 1960, becoming the Los Angeles Lakers.
