Pro basketball team, founded as the Dallas Chaparrals, an American Basketball Association (ABA) team, in 1967. Relocated and renamed the San Antonio Spurs in 1973. Joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1976. NBA champions in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014.
