Pelagianism

BIBLIOGRAPHY

A Christian "heresy", denying original sin, a man able to choose good or bad. Furthermore, he can do so without divine intervention. St. Augustine teaches, doctrines adopted later in Calvinism, man is born depraved, and requires guidance from the Holy Spirit. Varying degrees of compromised Pelagian theology exist, including Arminianism, where man is not wholly depraved, but still must work with the Holy Spirit.

The doctrine is named for Pelagius, who repudiated it later in his life.
