Chain of department stores founded in Minneapolis by George Dayton as "The Dayton Co." in 1902, and merged with Hudson's in 1969, becoming Dayton Hudson. It merged with Target Corporation in 1962, and with Marshall Field's in 1990. In 2000 Dayton Hudson changed its name to Target.
