Astronaut Brent, sent to rescue Taylor, goes through a similar realization regarding the fate of humanity on Earth. Brent locates Nova, Taylor's mate; they escape into the underground of the Forbidden Zone, finding a cult of telepathic mutant apes worshiping a leftover atomic bomb. Poor quality sequel to, and largely a rehash of, Planet of the Apes (1968). Tainted somewhat by ham-handed social commentary.
