The Queen (2-Sep-2006)

Director: Stephen Frears

Writer: Peter Morgan

Keywords: Drama, Biography, British Royalty

Biopic dramatizes Queen Elizabeth II's life in the immediate aftermath of Lady Diana's untimely demise.

ABSTRACT
Helen Mirren is Queen Elizabeth II at, arguably, the most trying point in her lengthy reign as monarch of the United Kingdom; namely, Lady Diana's shocking death in a car accident in 1997 and the hysteria that followed. Viewers are treated to a dramatization of the Queen's complicated relationship with a public demanding an avowedly public period of mourning and then-newly elected Prime Minister Tony Blair, as her normal role as an apolitical unifying spirit for the British public was set aside in favor of a reclusive period of introspection during an unprecedentedly sensitive time.
