Film adaptation of the comic book franchise of the same name chronicles the tales of several blue elfin creatures as they are chased out of their magical native realm and into modern-day New York City.

Running for their lives after unwittingly inviting the evil Gargamel and Azrael into their village, six Smurfs -- Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Clumsy, Grouchy, Brainy, and Gutsy -- are sucked into a vortex leading to New York City, where they ultimately end up in the Manhattan apartment of two humans named Patrick and Grace Winslow. After explaining their situation to the couple, they are allowed to stay, challenged to adapt to life in the human world whilst searching for a way back home.
