A Hollywood writer blacklisted during the Red Scare, suffering from amnesia following a car accident, endures a case of mistaken identity when he settles in a new city.

ABSTRACT
Up-and-coming Hollywood screenwriter Peter Appleton is fingered by a paranoid Red Scare-era Congressional committee for supposed Communist ties, forcing the cancellation of would-be blockbuster Ashes to Ashes and subsequent collapse of his career. Distraught and depressed, Peter drowns his sorrows at a bar, crashing into a river when he attempts to drive while intoxicated; washing up in a small town named Lawson with no memory of his past, Peter is mistaken for a sad old man's long-lost son, helping him to rebuild a once-mighty movie theater just as his old life begins to catch up with him.
