Who Killed the Electric Car? (23-Jan-2006)

Director: Chris Paine

Writer: Chris Paine

Keywords: Documentary, Documentary, Business, Environmentalism

Non-fiction about the demise of General Motors' EV1 all-electric car, manufactured and test-marketed from 1996-99. After the EV-1 model was canceled, GM had virtually all roadworthy EV1s repossessed and literally smashed and shredded, leading some (including the moviemakers) to speculate that GM didn't want to sell a clean, reliable electric vehicle that could challenge its less clean and less reliable but more profitable gas-powered cars.
