Biographical drama examines celebrated author Charles Dickens' secret relationship with a younger woman.

Renowned by his contemporaries and scholars following his death for works such as A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, and Oliver Twist, English author Charles Dickens maintained a secret relationship with actress Ellen Ternan at the height of his career. The romance, which lasted until his death and was not explored in great detail until the years following, is given a screen treatment in The Invisible Woman, a historical piece following the age-gapped pair as they meet following one of his plays and fall deeply in love with each other. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
