ABSTRACT
Kate Holbrook, a career-oriented thirty-seven-year old businesswoman desiring a child, receives unwelcome news when a doctor informs her of her heretofore unknown infertility. Determined to have a kid to call her own, Kate hires working-class South Philadelphia native Angie Ostrowiski to be her surrogate, encountering further trouble when Angie shows up on her doorstep without a place to live.
