ABSTRACT
Fourteen-year old Susie Salmon is murdered by her neighbor in suburban Philadelphia, killed when she is raped and dismembered after being pressured into "checking out" an underground den. Sent to live in a realm resembling Purgatory and existing between Heaven and Earth, Susie watches events in her old world play out following her departure from the vantage point of the afterlife, weighing her desire to seek revenge on her killer with her interest in her family's healing process as she attempts to guide authorities to the location of her body.
