Mark WahlbergAKA Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg

Born: 5-Jun-1971
Birthplace: Dorchester, MA

Gender: Male
Religion: Roman Catholic
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Actor, Rapper

Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Formerly of the Funky Bunch

Mark Wahlberg started his performing career at age 13, along with his older brother Donnie Wahlberg, as original members of the manufactured pop band New Kids on the Block. Mark left the group after just three months. He made music again beginning in 1990, performing rap as "Marky Mark" with a backup rapper/dancers called the Funky Bunch. Donnie produced two Marky Mark albums, including Wahlberg's biggest hit single, "Good Vibrations".

Famous but often mocked for his music and Calvin Klein underwear ads (showing off his accessory nipple), Wahlberg began his acting career in 1993, with a clunky performance as a tough high school kid in a TV movie, The Substitute. He then took small parts in a few forgettable theatrical films, and earned favorable reviews. His first leading role was in Fear in 1996, and the next year's won plaudits as pornstar Dirk Diggler Boogie Nights. The role was purportedly based on the life of porn star John Holmes, and Wahlberg says he has been plagued ever since by fans who wonder whether the extra-large prosthetic penis he wore for the film was real. Wahlberg's other films include Three Kings and The Perfect Storm (both with George Clooney), The Italian Job, and I Heart Huckabees.

Wahlberg was prosecuted for racial harassment of African-Americans in 1986, and briefly jailed in his teens for injuring an Asian man in a fight. He has also admitted to "youthful indiscretions" with drugs.
