Sam "Ace" Rothstein is the mob's behind-the-scenes choice to run a Las Vegas casino, The Tangiers. His childhood friend and protector, Nicky Santoro, provides enforcement for Rothstein but also becomes more and more involved running his own rackets. Rothstein marries former hooker Ginger, played by Sharon Stone for which she received a Best Actress Oscar nomination. Based roughly on the life of Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal, who ran the Stardust.
