A Greenwich Village photographer confined to a wheelchair while healing a broken leg adopts as his hobby the parallel voyeurism of all thirty-some apartments across the way. He witnesses inexplicable behavior that makes him certain that there has been a murder, but has difficulty convincing others. Received Oscar nominations for Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Sound Recording. Entered 1997 into the National Film Registry.
