The fair maiden Buttercup is engaged to Prince Humperdinck while her true love, the farmboy Westley, was reportedly killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts while off seeking adventure and fortune. Three rebels kidnap Buttercup to precipitate a war, but she is rescued by a mysterious stranger in black. Highly enjoyable satiric fairy tale is one of the most quotable films of all time. Received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song, and won a Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation.
