Superman (15-Dec-1978)

Director: Richard Donner

Writers: Robert Benton; David Newman; Leslie Newman; Mario Puzo

Music by: John Williams

Producer: Pierre Spengler

Keywords: Action/Adventure, Comic Book, Time Travel, Superman, Explosions

Planet Krypton is destroyed; Jor-El sends his son Kal-El to Earth where he is raised by adoptive parents as Clark Kent. Now an adult, Clark takes a job at the Daily Planet, cover for his superhero identity. He must foil Lex Luthor's harebrained plan to destroy the Pacific Coast to inflate the value of his inland properties. Excellent telling of the Superman tale, though with Gene Hackman miscast as Luthor. Nominated for 3 Oscars including Best Original Score; received from the Academy a Special Achievement Award for visual effects.
