Keywords: Sports Documentary, Biography

Sports documentary chronicles disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong's rise and fall from grace and superstardom.

Filmmaker Alex Gibney shadowed once-beloved American cyclist and Tour de France legend Lance Armstrong with the original intent of documenting his career comeback and attempts to win an eighth title. When things took a turn towards the unexpected and Armstrong confirmed long-standing allegations of doping on October 22, 2012, however, what had been a puff piece titled The Road Back transformed into a critically-acclaimed character examination called The Armstrong Lie, depicting Armstrong's Icarian descent from folk hero to pariah as speculation about his cheating became established fact.
