Bliss Cavendar, an indie-rock rebel living in the small town of Bodeen, Texas, yearns for an existence beyond the haunts of her backwoods Southern town, much to the chagrin of her conservative family. When young Bliss discovers roller derby during a shopping trip in Austin one day, she is instantly taken by the outlet it provides for her eccentric state of mind, quickly developing a passion for the rough-and-tumble sport on her way to a confrontation with her mother's desire for her to compete in beauty pageants.
