Dinner at Eight (29-Aug-1933)

Director: George Cukor

Writers: Frances Marion; Herman J. Mankiewicz; Donald Ogden Stewart

From a play: Dinner at Eight by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber

Musical Score by: Dr. William Axt

Keywords: Romantic Comedy, Great Depression

The cream of New York society ramp up for Millicent and Oliver Jordan's formal dinner party. Adaptation of the Broadway play which ran for 232 performances. Much like its sister film Grand Hotel (1932), this is an all-star showcase of MGM's talent. Awkwardly filmed in the early days of sound, but still one of the best productions to not receive a single Oscar nomination.
