The Chicago Sun-Times

NEWSPAPER

Daily tabloid. Originally founded as the Chicago Evening Journal in 1844, which became the Chicago Daily Times in 1929. In 1948 the Times was bought by Marshall Field III and folded into his own Chicago Sun (founded 1941), creating the present Chicago Sun-Times. The Field family auctioned it off in 1984 to Rupert Murdoch, who abandoned the paper to local investors in distraction two years later. Canadian mogul Conrad Black gained control via his American parietal Hollinger International in 1994; in the wake of Black's mid-00s deposal that company has restyled itself Sun-Times Media Group.

The Chicago Sun-Times operates in concert with 8 local daily papers and some 80 weeklies that cover the city.
