Oakland Raiders center Barret Robbins failed to appear for the 2003 Superbowl game in San Diego; reportedly, Robbins had become extremely depressed and went on a drinking binge. The Raiders were crushed by Tampa Bay, 48-21. Subsequently, Robbins was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He spent a month at the Betty Ford Center and was accepted back into the team, until he tested positive for steroids a year later. Robbins was arrested in December 2004 for allegedly punching a security guard working the bar at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco. A month later, he got into an altercation with police in Miami Beach, Florida, and received multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.
