Executive summary: CEO of Dean Foods

Investor responsible for major consolidation in the dairy industry. Engles first work was to consolidate the packaged ice industry, beginning in 1988 with his acquisition of Reddy Ice from 7-Eleven's parent Southland Corporation for $24M, and then buying up several smaller competitors. Engles repeated this pattern with Suiza Foods. Suiza was founded in 1994 to consolidate the dairy market in Puerto Rico; it had its IPO on the New York Stock Exchange two years later. Suiza capped a string of some 40 acquisitions by purchasing the third-largest player in the dairy industry in 2001, Dean Foods, and assuming its identity.
