After an aborted career in modeling, Robert Pattinson's first real appearance in film was as Giselher in a 2004 German made-for-TV version of the Nordic epic, Ring of the Nibelungs. But the next year he leapt into an entirely new realm when after an audition he was chosen as Cedric Diggory for the fourth film in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He is one of the four wizards in the Triwizard Tournament, champion of Hogwarts and an opponent of Potter, though Potter saves his life twice. Diggory is murdered by Peter Pettigrew, and appears in Order of the Phoenix in postmortem cameo. A second major role came as vampire Edward Cullen, one of the two leads in Twilight. The film is perhaps enjoyable only to those smitten by the actors performing in it. Immensely popular among the young, two sequels are in preparation.
