Conservative "Tea Party" Republican; anti-abortion rights, anti-gay rights, pro-gun rights. Campaigned urging substantial tax cuts, reduced government, and repeal of 2010 health care reform. With Allen West, he is the first black Republican in Congress since J. C. Watts retired in 2003.
