A Republican careerist with 30 years in the federal government who served under four Presidents: Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, and Bush 43. Resigned in early 2003. In March 2004, his book Against All Enemies, in conjunction with his testimony before the 9-11 Commission, created a storm questioning Bush's entire foreign policy and security platform -- the very issue he hoped to base his re-election upon.

Taught a foreign policy class at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government with Rand Beers in 2004.
