Composer who brought minimalist music to the electric guitar. A classically trained pianist, Chatham studied under Morton Subotnick at NYU, and later worked as La Monte Young's piano tuner. By the mid-1970s, Chatham had began to infiltrate the New York City punk rock scene, culminating in Guitar Trio (1977), a piece which fused his earlier just intonation compositions with loud guitar rock. Later works include An Angel Moves Too Fast to See (1989), composed for 100 electric guitars, bass and drums.
