Kraft Foods

COMPANY

Founded in 1903 by James L. Kraft as a cheese delivery service, and bailed out during its early, money-losing years by Kraft's brothers Charles, Fred, John, and Norman, the business was incorporated as J.L. Kraft & Brothers in 1909. Re-named Kraft Cheese Co. in 1924, Kraft Foods Co. in 1945, Kraftco Corporation in 1969, and Kraft Inc. in 1976. Merged with Dart Industries in 1980 and renamed Dart & Kraft, but divorced in 1986, emerging again as Kraft Inc. Purchased by Philip Morris (now known as Altria) in 1988, Kraft has since absorbed former competitors General Foods and Nabisco. Altria spun off Kraft Foods in 2007.

Kraft's brands include A-1 steak sauce, Athenos, Back to Nature, Balance Energy Bars, Country Time lemonade, Cheese Nips, Cheez Whiz, Chips Ahoy, Cool Whip, Corn Nuts, Crystal Light, Dream Whip, General Foods International coffees, Ginger Snaps, Grey Poupon, Honey Maid, Jack's Pizza, Jell-O, Knox Gelatin, Kool-Aid, Lorna Doone, Louis Rich, Mallomars, Maxwell House, Miracle Whip, Nabisco, Newtons cookies, Nilla, Nutter Butter, Oreo, Oscar Meyer, Oven Fry, Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Planters, Post Cereals, Postum, Premium crackers, Ritz crackers, Sanka, Seven Seas salad dressings, Shake 'n Bake, SnackWell's, South Beach Diet, Stove Top stuffing mix, Tang, Tombstone Pizza, Triscuits, Velveeta, Wheat Thins, and Yuban.
