Infernal Affairs (12-Dec-2002)

Original Title: Mou gaan dou

Directors: Andrew Lau; Alan Mak

Writers: Felix Chong; Alan Mak

Keywords: Crime

An undercover cop and mole operating out of the same police department work against one another to uncover each other's identity.

Idealistic rookie cop Chan Wing Yan is working a tough assignment as a mole in a local organized crime ring; Lau Kin Ming, meanwhile, is a rookie mobster aiming to infiltrate Chan's department's ranks. Double lives rage on for years and years until Lau, now a police inspector, works against Chan to expose his identity as both groups begin to grow aware of the presences of their respective moles. A massive critical and commercial hit at home in Hong Kong and abroad, Infernal Affairs would serve as the basis for similarly-successful American thriller The Departed four years later.
