Executive summary: Dr. John Carter on ER

Noah Wyle played the baby-faced intern John Carter on ER in 1994, and eventually took over as the show's nominal lead after George Clooney and Anthony Edwards departed the show. He was the last original cast member to leave the series, quitting in 2005 after receiving a reported $9,000,000 for his final season.

Prior to ER, he had supporting roles in A Few Good Men with Tom Cruise and played a Nazi youth in Swing Kids with Christian Bale. During ER's long run, he played Steve Jobs in Pirates of Silicon Valley and played the professor in the quirky Donnie Darko with Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Since ER he has played the curator of mankind's historical and mythical treasures in a series of Librarian TV movies for TNT.

Wyle is Artistic Producer at The Blank Theatre in Hollywood, a company that specializes in new plays and offers ticket prices that audiences need not be wealthy to afford. He has done volunteer work with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a group supporting preventive medicine and good nutrition and opposed to human or unnecessary animal experiments, and Human Rights Watch, a group opposed to torture.

Wyle's stepfather, James Katz, has been a leading force in the rescue and restoration of such classics as Kubrick's Spartacus and Hitchcock's Rear Window.
