COMPANY

Continental Oil Company, founded 1875, became part of the Standard Oil Trust in 1885 but spun off in 1913 after a court order broke up the monopoly. Acquired by DuPont in 1981 but then spun off in 1998, then merged with Phillips Petroleum to form Conoco-Phillips on 30 August 2002.
