A middling ghostwriter signed on to finish the memoirs of a former British prime minister discovers damaging information that could prove threatening to his own life.

ABSTRACT
An unnamed, unremarkable ghostwriter is hired to complete the memoirs of former British prime minister Adam Lang after the previous writer tasked with the project, long-time Lang aide Mike McAra, perished in an apparent accident. As the ghostwriter settles into a small hotel on Martha's Vineyard to begin his assignment, however, a burgeoning scandal concerning Lang's possible implication as a party to war crimes leads him to realize that the material he has been assigned to work with may very well lead him to a demise not unlike that of his predecessor.
