ABSTRACT
Erotic writer Marquis de Sade is remanded to the Charenton Asylum for the Insane as punishment for his works during the post-French Revolution Reign of Terror, suffering at the hands of a conservative doctor demanding that the sympathetic priest in charge of the asylum stop his ongoing artistic endeavors. An unlikely battle of wits and ingenuity erupts when de Sade resorts to wine and blood to create his pieces in the absence of his beloved quills, eventually dictating his work to an asylum custodian who rejects his repeated sexual advances.
