Fictionalized version of the life of writer Emile Zola, who rose to the defense of French Army Captain Alfred Dreyfus, falsely accused and convicted of treason. The story is one of the great scandals of France. Outstanding performance by Paul Muni, probably his best role. The film won three Academy Awards including Best Picture.
