At 16, she joined the regular cast of the soap opera Another World. Sedgwick celebrated a lesbian Thanksgiving with Julianna Margulies in What's Cooking?, played a nameless hooker in Kansas with Matt Dillon and Andrew McCarthy, and played Tom Cruise's love interest in Born on the Fourth of July and John Travolta's in Phenomenon. She met Kevin Bacon on the set of the TV drama Lemon Sky in 1988, and married him within months. Sedgwick's cousin, Edie Sedgwick, appeared in many of Andy Warhol's films. She was said to be the inspiration for Bob Dylan's "Just Like A Woman", and died of a drug overdose at the age of 28.
