Through adolescence he appeared on every sitcom from Blossom to the Father Dowling Mysteries, including three appearances on Roseanne. Between sitcoms, he appeared in a TV remake of The Absent-Minded Professor with Harry Anderson in the Fred MacMurray role, and made his big screen debut with a leading role in 1987's The Gate, a forgettable teen horror romp.
His brother, Andrew Dorff, dated Claire Danes, and later released a grunge rock album, Hint of Mess. It was poorly received in America, but something of a hit in Europe. Their father, composer Steve Dorff, wrote music for Clint Eastwood's Bronco Billy, Every Which Way But Loose, and Honkytonk Man. He also wrote the music for Growing Pains, Murphy Brown, Reba, and other sitcoms. His biggest pop hits include Kenny Rogers' "Through the Years", and Anne Murray's "I Just Fall In Love Again".
