| Elizabeth Warren AKA Elizabeth A. Warren Born: 22-Jun-1949 Birthplace: Oklahoma City, OK
Gender: Female Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Educator Party Affiliation: Democratic Nationality: United States Executive summary: Law professor, bankruptcy expert Law professor at Harvard, appointed by Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) to chair the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP), the bank and financial industry bailout. It should be noted that "oversight" is her only role in TARP — she issues reports, but her office has no authority to determine how the TARP program operates, investigate wrongdoing, issue subpoenas, etc.
For many years, she has been perhaps the most outspoken and articulate voice for ordinary people in American economics, and even before the financial collapse of 2008 she proposed the establishment of a federal office to protect consumers in their dealings with banks and finance institutions. When this Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) was established, however, Warren was seen as too pro-consumer to be confirmed in the pro-corporate Senate. She was instead appointed by President Obama to a "special assistant" position in the Treasury Dept, where she will report to Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner and offer "suggestions and advice" for how CFPA should be run.
