One of the most capable Mujahedin in the war against the Soviets, he was the recipient of a large quantity of CIA aid. Now an ally of Mohammed Omar and a supporter of Osama bin Laden, he welcomed the 2001 attacks inside America. Hekmatyar served as prime minister twice, and though now not much of a "warlord" he remains one of the most powerful individuals in Afghanistan. He is wanted as a terrorist by the US government.
