As consultant and later full time employee of the California State Board of Equalization, he formulated much of the modern California tax code. He made extensive efforts to reduce the process and cost of tax litigation. But Traynor is mostly known for his service on the California Supreme Court. "There is no sounder currency in the courts across the country than a Traynor opinion."
