[1] A concocted story that Bogart was born not on Christmas Day, but instead either the 23rd of December (or January), and that a film studio changed the day of his birth for publicity reasons, has been circulating for decades. His birth announcement in a 10 January 1900 issue of the Ontario County Times completely eliminates the possibility of the latter date, as well as any possibility of studio tampering: "Born: at New York, Dec. 25, 1899, to Dr. and Mrs. Belmont DeForest Bogart, a son."
