Marathon Oil
COMPANY
Founded 1887 as the Ohio Oil Company. Became part of Standard Oil in 1889, then independent again in 1911. Acquired by US Steel in 1981, which existed as USX Corporation from 1991 to 2001 before spinning off US Steel and assuming the identity of Marathon Oil.
