CBS

COMPANY

Founded 1927 as United Independent Broadcasters, by Arthur Judson. Acquired in 1995 by Westinghouse, which assumed its name two years later. In 1999, Viacom acquired CBS, but the merger was undone with a shuffling of assets in 2005 -- Viacom took the cable television properties and CBS took the network television business. In addition to its namesake network, co-owns The CW Television Network with Warner Bros.
