Rhapsody in Blue (22-Sep-1945)

Director: Irving Rapper

Writers: Sonya Levien; Howard Koch; Elliot Paul

Music and Lyrics by: George Gershwin; Ira Gershwin

Producer: Jesse L. Lasky

Keywords: Drama, Biography

Mostly fictionalized biography of popular 20th century composer George Gershwin, who passed an untimely death in 1937. Overly sentimental at times, the acting and story are certainly subpar but the film is replete with wonderful versions of many of Gershwin's songs (certain ones had to be omitted because of rights issues). Received Oscar nominations for Best Score of a Musical and Best Sound Recording.
