A week before the book came out, the Swift Boat Vets hit a snag. On 5 August 2004 Lieutenant Commander George Elliott admitted that he had erred in signing a legal affidavit for SBVFT asserting that John Kerry shot a Vietcong soldier in the back. "I still don't think he shot the guy in the back. [...] It was a terrible mistake probably for me to sign the affidavit with those words. I'm the one in trouble here."
Elliott said he was no under personal or political pressure to sign the statement, but he did feel "time pressure" from those involved in the book [Unfit for Command]. "That's no excuse," Elliott said. "I knew it was wrong[...] In a hurry I signed it and faxed it back. That was a mistake."
Trouble was, Unfit for Command contained the same claim. So after The Boston Globe broke the story, Elliott issued an immediate re-retraction in the form of another affidavit, claiming without specifics that the Globe had misquoted him. The paper responded in a statement: "the Globe stands by the article. The quotes attributed to Mr. Elliott were on the record and absolutely accurate." Elliott promptly disappeared from the radar, refusing to grant any more media interviews.
Then somebody dug up a bunch of posts dating back to 2001 on the Free Republic message boards, which Dr. Corsi admitted writing. In addition to a series of vituperative posts attacking homosexuality, Islam, the Roman Catholic Church, the Democratic party, and the Clintons (Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea), there were several comments specifically targeting John Kerry:
- John F*ing Commie Kerry and Commie Ted [Kennedy] discuss their plan to hand America over to our nation's enemies.
- Kerry offers a clear choice. Anti-American hatred.
- Kerry has a long history of Communist supporters.
- After he married TerRAHsa, didn't John Kerry begin practicing Judiasm? He also has paternal gradparents that were Jewish. What religion is John Kerry?
- Just don't let anybody put a tablet with the Ten Commandments in front of the school where that girl wants to wear a Muslim scarf -- OH, No --- then the RATS would complain. Anti-Christian, Anti-American -- just like their Presidential Candidate -- Jean Francois Kerrie.
- the Rats better think twice about the bogus charge that the President went "AWOL." Looks like John F*ing Kerry went traitor.
In addition to Unfit for Command, Dr. Corsi has authored other books on a variety of topics, including Debugging Techniques for IBM PC BASIC (1986), some books on political science and financial investing, and the illustrated children's book The King, The Dragon, and The Witch (1972).
