At 17, Hudson decided she would be an actress, hired an agent, and popped up in five forgettable films before her breakthrough role in 2000's Almost Famous. She's appeared in an increasingly long line of forgettable films since, including How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, Alex and Emma, Le Divorce, and Raising Helen. She was almost Spider-Man's girlfriend, but the role went to Kirsten Dunst when Hudson chose to do The Four Feathers instead.
Penny Lane, Hudson's character in Almost Famous, was more-than-loosely based on famous groupie Pamela des Barres, author of I'm With the Band: Confessions of a Groupie.
